Tara is a Boston artist who gives dance lecture/demonstrations in schools, museums and cultural institutions. She is a classical Indian dancer and works in the techniques of Kuchipudi and Bharat Natyam. Her focus is on dance education, and she performs for audiences of all ages.
Tara is on several school performer rosters, and has also been on the Young Audiences roster. She has performed at the New England Art & Education Conference, and has given lecture/demonstrations and workshops throughout New England for the past 10 years.
Tara has performed and taught in Colombia, Brazil, Turkey, India and the U.S. She has collaborated with artists across disciplines and performed the title role in a Bank of America Celebrity Series production. Her television appearances include WGBH's DanceFest and WGBH's Greater Boston Arts. Tara founded and directed Lasandhi Dance Theater, a company that performed throughout New England, including Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival. She has taught at the Triveni School of Dance since 1994.
Tara studied classical Indian dance with Neena Gulati at the Triveni School of Dance in Brookline, MA and with Anuradha Jonnalagadda in Hyderabad, India. She studied Modern Dance at the Harvard Summer Dance School, and holds a cum laude Bachelor's Degree in Dance Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She also studied West African dance and spent a year in Dakar, Senegal. In addition to her dance education, Tara completed an apprenticeship in Japanese taiko drumming and performed with Odaiko New England for five years.
